Preparing Your Home Before Departure
Here are items you may want to prepare in advance in Korea, as some products can be comparatively expensive when purchased in New Zealand.
| Item | Details |
| Required Items | Passport, flight ticket, address and phone number of your accommodation in New Zealand (required for the arrival card), New Zealand dollars (please prepare an appropriate amount; up to NZD 10,000 per person can be brought in without declaration) |
| Dictionary | Korean–English, English–Korean, and English–English dictionaries / electronic dictionaries |
| Stationery | Stationery items in New Zealand are generally more expensive and less diverse than in Korea. However, since schools require all students to use standardized stationery, you will need to purchase the items listed on the school’s stationery list once provided. It is recommended to buy practice notebooks, memo pads, and similar items in Korea for home use. |
| Daily Necessities | Basic cosmetics, sunscreen, towels, toiletries, nail clippers, batteries, sewing kits, razors, glasses, contact lenses, and feminine products are generally of better quality and more affordable in Korea. |
| Medicine | Digestive medicine, pain relievers, headache medicine, lip balm, general cold medicine, medicated liquid (e.g., menthol roll-on), patches, ointment for cuts, and bandages. |
| Clothing | Summer: The temperature difference between day and night is large, and UV levels are very strong. Light cardigans or jackets to wear after sunset are very useful. Rather than fashionable clothes, you will often prefer comfortable and practical outfits. Winter: New Zealand’s winter is the rainy season, with frequent rainfall. In Auckland, winter temperatures rarely drop below zero, but because heating systems are different from Korea, it may feel colder. It’s helpful to bring warm outerwear. Fur clothing, however, is rarely worn in Auckland. Others: Shoes, sneakers (including soccer shoes), slippers, underwear, sportswear (tennis, squash, jogging, swimming, etc.)—Korean products are cheaper and of good quality. |
