Lincoln University is located in the suburb of Lincoln, about a 30-minute drive from Christchurch in the South Island. Lincoln is a small town in the Canterbury region, with a high proportion of students, offering a quiet yet vibrant and dynamic environment. Its proximity to Christchurch ensures convenient access to cultural facilities and city amenities.
Founded in 1878 as a School of Agriculture, Lincoln University is the oldest agricultural institution in the Southern Hemisphere. It operated in association with the University of Canterbury before becoming an independent university in 1990. In 2011, it merged with Telford Polytechnic to offer joint degree programs and large-scale commercial farms for practical training. While the campus is relatively small, Lincoln is renowned for its expertise in agriculture and land-related fields, offering unique programs and producing excellent research outcomes.
Lincoln University is the only institution in New Zealand specializing in agriculture and land-related disciplines, providing a range of programs across the Faculty of Agribusiness and Commerce, Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Faculty of Environment, Society and Design. Programs range from Diplomas to Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees.
