About the school

Established in 1874, the University of Adelaide is Australia’s third-oldest university and South Australia’s only member of the prestigious Group of Eight universities. Following its merger with the University of South Australia, widely recognised for leading programs in business, nursing, physiotherapy, and education, the new Adelaide University was officially launched in July 2024, making it Australia’s newest university.

The University of Adelaide is internationally renowned for excellence in engineering, dentistry, viticulture, agriculture, and environmental science. It also delivers innovative and future-focused education in biology, health sciences, information technology, and other high-demand study areas, making it a popular choice for domestic and international students seeking to study in Australia.

The university has an impressive history of academic achievement and notable alumni. Australia’s first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, graduated from the university, which has also produced five Nobel Prize winners and the first Australian astronaut to complete university studies. In addition, 14 University of Adelaide undergraduate programs are ranked among the world’s top 100, reflecting the institution’s outstanding research performance, teaching quality, and global reputation.

Another distinctive feature is the University of Adelaide College, which offers pathway programs for students who may not meet direct university entry requirements. Through Diploma and Degree Transfer programs, students can build their academic skills and progress into selected University of Adelaide degree courses.
