Civil Engineer

Civil engineering students learn to combine theory and practice and apply them to road construction, structural design, bridge maintenance, wastewater systems, railways and hydro projects. As the name “civil” suggests, the infrastructure that everyday life depends on, such as bridges, dams, roads, airports and water supply and sewerage systems, is built by civil engineers. In Korea, most basic construction infrastructure was completed long ago, so civil engineering has become less popular. In New Zealand, however, where construction is booming, civil engineers at every level will be needed over the long term to build new buildings and expand residential and industrial space while respecting the natural environment.
