In New Zealand, undergraduate programs in physiotherapy are offered by the University of Otago, AUT, and Wintec. At the University of Otago, students must first complete the Health Sciences First Year program before officially entering the physiotherapy major in their second year, whereas AUT and Wintec allow direct entry into the program from the first year, though their specific admission requirements differ. Despite these structural variations, all three institutions offer a comprehensive four-year bachelor’s degree. Throughout the program, students acquire essential skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment while covering a broad spectrum of physical health conditions. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based practices, training students in manual therapy, exercise therapy, electrotherapy, and various other physical therapy modalities. Furthermore, to provide a well-rounded foundation for real-world practice, the program integrates comprehensive studies in clinical research, education, counseling, and healthcare administration.
