Why choose SIT

SIT’s diverse programs focus on providing practical skills and the latest industry trends, alongside theoretical knowledge. To achieve this, the institution partners with various relevant companies to deliver high-quality, innovative education. Standard classes are conducted in small groups, which not only fosters a warm and welcoming atmosphere but also allows for detailed, tailored, and professional guidance based on each student’s academic level.

About the school

SIT (Southern Institute of Technology) is a government-funded polytechnic. Its main campus is located in Invercargill, with smaller campuses in Queenstown, Christchurch, and Gore. The institution offers extensive support, including international student scholarships. Notably, students who enroll in a mainstream academic program of one year or longer can receive up to 24 weeks of free English language courses to help improve their English before starting their studies.Compared to institutions in major New Zealand cities, SIT offers relatively affordable tuition fees, which is a major advantage. The school also actively supports students’ employability through CV writing assistance and employment workshops, while fully backing their academic journey with various workshops and one-on-one tutoring.

  • Up to 36 Weeks of Free English Courses

Students enrolling in an academic program of one year or longer receive up to 24 weeks of free English courses. These courses are held at the Invercargill campus. Invercargill has a low proportion of Korean residents across the city, making it an ideal environment for improving English skills.

  • Free Airport Pickup & 2 Weeks of Accommodation

For the convenience of international students, SIT provides free airport pickup and 2 weeks of complimentary accommodation. Once students send their domestic flight tickets, the school arranges these services. Airport pickup is available from Invercargill or Queenstown airports, provided the student is heading to a campus in the same city. The free accommodation offer applies only to the Invercargill and Queenstown campuses. Students wishing to extend their stay can apply through the student accommodation manager. Additionally, a 24/7 emergency hotline (0800-748-111) is available for free from New Zealand mobile phones or public payphones to ensure student safety around the clock.

  • SIT Internal English Assessment

For students taking English courses prior to entering a mainstream academic program, SIT conducts internal English assessments every 6 weeks. Students who reach the required level on this test can enter their chosen academic program without needing an official IELTS score.
